IWI ORTHODONTICS

A 6,000 square foot VIP orthodontic clinic in Tokyo, Japan. Located in Omotesando, a vibrant and sophisticated area, visited by both locals and tourists. IWI uses a new invention to straighten teeth invisibly within 14 months with one palette incision. The clinic is structured  using steel and panelized with calcium silicate panels, free to move in the vertical dimension in case of earthquakes, they simultaneously operate as cavities for LED lights.

Space is very limited in Tokyo, so we used a strategy to increase the clinics scale by incorporating the exterior balcony space such that it participates in the interior experience. We developed smooth and gradual transitions between materials- soft to hard including paving, grass, soft paneling to fabrics, opaque to clear glass, controlled led/halogen to natural light, while fulfilling the experiential goals of the project- at first startling and then providing a more intimate personalized experience of the space.
